The scope was to strain gauge the DAT60 BT035 Haul Truck centre chassis to determine the stress distribution resulting from pseudo static loading. Twenty nine locations were identified by Powertrans and twenty two of these locations were strain gauged and recorded during an operating shift of the DAT60.
The gauges used were Vishay Micro Measurements weldable strain gauges CEA-06-W250A-350. They were wired in a quarter bridge configuration using the 3 wire technique with bridge completion taking place at the loggers.
All strain gauges were welded in the locations derived from photographs supplied by Powertrans.
The loggers are Unidata Prologgers and were mounted to the hand rail above the haul truck front engine bay. Logger 1 recorded locations 1 through to 8 using differential input, 50mV range without gain applied. This consumed all 16 channels of the logger. Logger 2 recorded locations 9 through to 25 using single ended input, 5000mV range with pre-amplification.
The two loggers recorded data at a scan rate of 2 seconds and a logging interval of 20 seconds. Of this 10 sample block the maximum and minimum values were saved.
The excitation voltage was 5.0 volts.
